Amber is associated with sunlight and warmth and is reputed to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and accelerate the healing of wounds and is thus the perfect help for babies and toddlers who wear it when they are teething.

When a baby is wearing a teething necklace on the skin, the skin's warmth releases healing oils from the amber (a resin) which are absorbed via the skin into the bloodstream.

Amber is not a stone and therefore is warm to the touch, as well as very comfortable and light to wear. Amber is known to reduce inflammation of the throat, ear and stomach and to fight inflammation, infections and respiratory disease.

A natural analgesic, amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs. Amber's anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties are also recognized by allopathic medicine. The healing properties of amber include calmative, analgesic, antispasmodic, expectorant, and febrifuge (anti-fever) functions.

Every bead is knotted in between to prevent choking hazards. Strung on silk matching the amber colour, every necklace uses a twist screw-in clasp for safety. The string is very strong and breaking is unlikely to happen, even if the necklace would break only one bead would come off.

My second grandson is 11 months old and struggling more with teething than the first one did. I heard about the necklace more than 3 months ago but the 2 main baby outlets in PMB were out of stock every time I visited (usually once a month).
Yesterday I was told of a small shop at Cascades that stocked them so my daughter an I went there. A fellow shopper told us that her 10 month old had been wearing the necklace constantly for 3 months and that although the change wasn't miraclous there was a noticable improvement in "dribbling" and a reduction in the degree of fever the baby experienced.
I parted with R200.00 and we put it on my grand son at 4 yesterday afternoon.
I know this may be an unfortunate coincedence but he was awake for half the night with a terrible cough and a tight chest that we eventually had to medicate and he was not sent to day-care this morning as he had a Temp of 39 degrees.
Is it possible to be allergic to whatever the resin releases and do the different colours signify different species of fosilised tree resin?
As far as I know the little one isn't allergic to anything and FYI although I'm a scientist by profession I am a firm believer in natural and holistic medicine.
The necklace I purchaced strongly resembles the first of the three images given above.
I would really appreciate any input or experiences that others have had.
Lastly, how long does it take for the effects of the amber's "healing oils" to be apparent?
Many thanks.
Dianne
